I Own 6 Digital Cameras

Updated: Jan 24

A brief review of the Sony ZV-1, Canon G7xII, Sony RX100VII, Fujifilm x100vi, DJI Osmo Pocket 3, & Sony A6500

My only gripe with only six different digital cameras is that I’m spoiled for choice (my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery vibes) AND I while out shooting I sometimes feel like I want to get a shot that one camera excels at but the one I brought out with me doesn’t… but don’t we all feel that way? Feeling this way and knowing this is a common issue when picking which camera to purchase, I wanted to compile all my thoughts about each camera - the pros and the cons - into one definitive list for easy reference.

Location: The St. Regis, Langkawi, Malaysia

This is the most unique camera in my lineup, as it is my only action camera.

Specs

  • 1-inch CMOS sensor

  • 2-inch rotatable touchscreen

  • 4k/120fps

  • Three-axis mechanical stabilization

  • 10-bit D-Log M & HLG

Use

I predominantly use this camera to document lifestyle and travel b-roll. The gimbal allows for smooth and steady footage while I’m out and about, quickly capturing the scene with little fuss.

Pros:
  • Ultra compact

  • Stable footage

  • Very short learning curve

  • Vlog-ready footage SOOC

Cons:
  • Fragile screen

  • Not waterproof (not a deal breaker but something to note)

Location: The Colony Hotel, Bali, Indonesia

My oldest camera and my only interchangeable lens camera at the moment.

Specs

  • APS-C Type, Exmor CMOS sensor

  • 25 mp

  • Records up to XAVCs 4K: 3840 x 2160 (25p, 100M)

  • JPEG + RAW

  • Bluetooth

  • Tiltable Touch Screen

  • Built In Flash

  • M1 Hot Shoe

Use

I predominantly use this camera for semi-professional purposes and when I need a lot of versatility from my camera.

Pros:
  • High quality

  • Very versatile with the interchangeable lens

  • 10+ years and still comparable output

Cons:

Screen tilts, but doesn’t tilt up the full 180 degrees of later models

Location: Dingle Park, Ontario, Canada

My newest camera, and the one I find myself not reaching for as much as the others

Specs

  • 20.1 MP

  • Exmore RS CMOS Sensor

  • 24-200 mm Zoom Range

  • 3-inch Tiltable Touch LCD

  • 0.02 second Super-fast AF

  • Built-In Flash

  • Built-In Viewfinder

  • F 2.8 - 4.5 Lens

  • 4K HDR Video

  • JPEG + RAW

Use

Hybrid settings where I need to vlog and take high-quality videos. It functions as a great happy medium between my Sony ZV-1 and Canon G7xII.

Pros:
  • High quality

  • Compact size but up to 200mm of optical zoom

  • Built-in flash + Viewfinder

  • Up to 4k Video + Sony Autofocus combo

  • The body is not as ergonomic as the Sony ZV-1 or Canon G7xII

  • DOUBLE the price of the Sony ZV-1, the Canon G7xII AND the Canon G7xIII for similar outputs

  • No Hot Shoe or Cold Shoe

Location: Central Park, New York, United States of America

The Sony ZV-1 is my main camera for creating content for YouTube. I love how easy it is to set up, and that if I need to, I can also take high-quality images with it.

Specs

  • CMOS Inch Sensor

  • 20MP

  • Records up to XAVCs 4K

  • JPEG + RAW

Cons:
  • In-camera stabilization is not great

  • The photography user experience is lacking compared to other camera models

  • JPEG + RAW

  • WI-Fi

  • 3-inch tilt screen
